Leif Enger is my father
And an amazing author. It was an absolute delight to discover he speaks about narrative the same way I talk about type. In terms of atmosphere and character. To build his visual identity I eschewed all but the simplest imagery, since Leif’s writing covers diverse geography and history.
Instead I worked closely with Leif to create a simple, softened sans drawing from the Urnes style of Scandinavian ornamentation. The result reflected the dignity of Leif’s writing, and his own slender, humorous demeanor.
The website, leif-enger.com was commissioned by Grove/Atlantic publishing, and coincided with the publication of Leif’s second novel “So Brave, Young, and Handsome.” I designed the frontend layout and visuals, including a parallax effect background via css.
